iamerican software package provides American English dictionary for ispell (standard version), you can install in your Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install iamerican
iamerican is installed in your system.
Make ensure the iamerican package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep iamerican *
You will get with iamerican package name, version, architecture and description in a table
